Rogue
Subtlety
Playstyle
Burst-window melee DPS that stacks buffs and effects into a short, hectic Shadow Dance window on a roughly 90-second cycle, with quieter damage in between. Midnight's redesign significantly simplified the spec to be friendlier for new and returning players, though real mastery still means juggling several interlocking cooldowns and resources — still the most demanding of the three specs in this class.
Burst windows can neutralize a dangerous pack or add wave before it executes its mechanic
Season 2 Tier Set
Chosen Bloodslayer's Hexweave
Backstab costs 10 less Energy and deals 100% increased damage. Shuriken Storm costs 5 less Energy and deals 60% increased damage.
Lingering Darkness now also benefits Eviscerate and Black Powder at 100% effectiveness.
+ The Good
Burst windows can neutralize a dangerous pack or add wave before it executes its mechanic
Atrophic Poison and a strong CC/lockdown kit (Sap, Blind, Kidney Shot)
Excellent survivability (Cheat Death, Fade to Nothing, Evasion) and top-tier mobility (Sprint, Shadowstep)
− The Bad
Damage between burst windows is genuinely lackluster — timing everything around cooldowns matters a lot
Cleave damage remains a weak point even after Patch 12.1's changes
Overall output swings a lot with tuning patch to patch, more than most other DPS specs

Utility
Hero talents
Focuses on boosting damage during cooldown windows plus a stronger, more frequent finisher (Coup de Grace). Correction from earlier research: Patch 12.1's changes pushed this out as a competitive option for Subtlety specifically -- Deathstalker is now ahead in essentially every scenario, though Trickster remains fine for casual, non-competitive play.
Focuses on single-target and sustained damage via Deathstalker's Mark, which has to be moved between targets manually -- real mental overhead in multi-target fights. Currently the recommended tree for Subtlety in essentially all content, with roughly a 7% single-target lead over Trickster.
